I offer support for children preparing for selective entrance tests for the grammar schools, grammar streams and selective independent schools and my students have had great success.  Personally, I do not favour a particularly intensive, strict tutoring approach.  I am not selective in who I take on in terms of having a pre-tuition test, although I do expect parents to partner with me; for example, by informing me of any specific learning difficulties.  My aim has always been to be inclusive and to build confidence, knowledge, skills and understanding to help students to be (and to perform) at their very best – and also to stand them in good stead for their future education, to succeed at whichever secondary school they go on to attend.

Although, of course, I am unable to offer a guarantee, to date I have had great success with the students I have supported preparing for the 11+ selection tests then being offered a place at their local grammar school – this is a testament, of course, as much to their own application, dedication and achievement as it is to mine.

​Safeguarding considerations are paramount and I subscribe to DBS Update, which means my DBS certification is continuously up-to-date. The business is also registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office as a Data Controller.

I believe success with selective tests depends on a range of factors: natural ability and processing speed; personality, dedication and motivation; ongoing support at home and teaching quality at school all contribute to the outcome.  Professional one-to-one, face-to-face tutoring can help greatly with familiarisation and developing skills to bring out the best in your child and make the endeavour a smoother journey.
